College Advising

This group course, designed by our College Advising Teams at American Heritage Schools, will provide students, in a group setting, with various tools and resources to assist them in their journey through the college admissions process.

It will include a variety of modules, including but not limited to Exploring Goals, The College Search, Resume Building, Testing, College Application Essays, Letters of Recommendation, Financial Aid and Scholarships, for students to explore and work on as they get ready to complete their college applications.

Exploring Goals

Setting goals prepares them to explore careers and college majors which is the preliminary step to searching for colleges. Learning about the different types of colleges and universities, students will conduct a college search specific to their needs to create their college list.  

The College Search

Students will work on creating a college bound resume. They learn the importance of letters of recommendation, and how to select recommenders and request letters. Students will be introduced to the various application options, and the college application essays, their role in admissions and tips on creating dynamic essays.  

Resume Building

Students will gain an understanding of various testing submission options, superscoring, and score choice criteria at colleges and universities. They will also explore different types of funding for college, including scholarships, grants, financial aid, and loans, as well as information on available financial aid options.
